Buyers ยท Briefs & RFQs

Posting a Brief ยท the buyer wizard, field by field

~8 min readยทUpdated 13 May 2026ยทEveryone

Posting a brief is the act that triggers everything ยท matching, supplier responses, the discovery-call rhythm. A well-written brief gets 3-5 quality responses in 48 hours. This guide walks you through every wizard field, with screenshots of what you'll see at each step.

Before you start

  • You need a verified account ยท check /account.
  • The wizard auto-saves on every field change ยท you can leave and come back without losing progress.
  • Plan to spend 10-15 minutes. Vague answers in 5 minutes produce vague matches.

Opening the wizard

From your dashboard at /account, click "Post a requirement", or jump straight to /account/briefs/new.

Step 1 ยท Outcome statement

One paragraph answering "what business outcome would 'this worked' look like?". Lead with the outcome, not the activity. "Triple SaaS pipeline by Q4" beats "hire a content marketing agency".

Why this matters ยท suppliers respond very differently to outcome-led briefs vs activity-led ones. Outcome briefs attract strategists; activity briefs attract executors.

Step 1 of the wizard ยท the outcome statement is the single biggest signal in the brief.

Step 2 ยท Categories + scope

  • Pick a primary category + up to 2 secondaries.
  • Describe the scope in 3-5 bullet points ยท what's in, what's out.
  • Listing 5+ categories means the matching engine surfaces you to less-relevant suppliers ยท keep it tight.

Step 2 ยท pick the primary category first ยท secondaries are optional but narrow the matching cohort.

Step 3 ยท Budget bracket

Ranges, not exact numbers. The bracket is the single biggest matching signal ยท suppliers below your floor don't see your brief, suppliers above your ceiling do (and they'll propose a scoped phase 1).

Don't underset to "get cheap quotes". Suppliers serious about your kind of work walk past low-budget briefs entirely.

Step 3 ยท the bracket sets the matching floor and ceiling ยท the single most-contested field in the wizard.

Step 4 ยท Timeline + urgency

When you want it in-market. Be realistic ยท "yesterday" is read as "next quarter" by suppliers. Urgency is a separate flag ยท low / medium / high / business-critical ยท drives priority routing on our side.

Step 4 ยท timeline drives supplier sequencing ยท urgency drives routing speed.

Step 5 ยท Filters (ICP)

Optional but high-impact: geographic, supplier size, industry. "Open to anyone" means suppliers stop self-filtering, which produces noise.

Recommended ยท pick at least one constraint that reflects how your business actually operates. "UK-based" is a reasonable default unless you have a specific reason to widen.

Wizard Step 5 ยท ICP filters ยท geographic, supplier size, industry constraints
Step 5 ยท ICP filters are optional but cut the noise ยท skip at your peril.

Step 6 ยท Review and submit

The review screen shows every answer. Read it as if you were a supplier ยท would you know what to respond to? Edit anything that reads vaguely. Hit Submit.

Step 6 ยท read it as a supplier would ยท edit anything vague ยท then submit.

After submission

  1. Confirmation screen ยท "Your brief is being matched."
  2. 3-5 matched supplier responses arrive at /account/briefs within 24-48 hours.
  3. You're notified by email each time a response lands.

Editing or closing a brief

  • Edit before responses ยท open the brief from /account/briefs and hit Edit. Any active matching cycle restarts.
  • Edit after responses ยท we discourage it ยท the responses on file were against the original brief. Better to close this one and post a fresh one.
  • Close a brief ยท flips status to Completed. Suppliers can no longer respond. Keep the brief visible in your archive for reference.

The brief is the most leveraged 15 minutes you'll spend on the platform. Don't rush it.
